Coupons and Stocking Up – Get your coupons!

Previous Coupon Post: How do I do It?

Get your coupons. Here are a few of the best resources:

  • Buy a paper. Get a weekend newspaper by waiting for a deal or just buying it at current prices. It’s cheaper than buying them at the grocery store every week. Call or check the web site for your paper – they may offer a free trial subscription.
  • Find in-Store Coupons. There are often coupon books, extra newspaper ads, or on-product or in-aisle coupons you can use. Just keep your eyes peeled.
  • Scout for coupons. You can also find coupons by asking friends and neighbors for their unused coupons, joining a coupon swap or buying coupons online, scouting for coupons at local places, etc. I’ve never found these strategies worth my time or effort, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be in the future.
  • Print coupons. There are also many deals that require printing your own coupons off the Internet. I rely on my blog resources to point me to the best ones (see below for those blogs).

Coupons are gimmick developed by Advertisers, Convincing consumers they can exchange a piece of paper to purchase “Brand named” items at a discount, when the very same items are available every day at that price or less, under generic brand names, that are made by the very same people. Brand named means ego and Status, not quality. If you really want to save, buy bulk-generic items on sale.

No, you really can save money with coupons for certain items – even over generic brands on sale and bulk items – as long as you do it right. We have been able to reduce our monthly budget significantly by shopping generic and bulk and then stockpiling coupon/sale items that bring products lower than that or even free. You just have to know how to work the system instead of letting the system work you. 🙂
